Wayfinding Design

Project Type

The Duderstadt

An undergrad advanced typography task to redesign the wayfinding of an existing campus building at The University of Michigan.

The Duderstadt is connected to both Pierpont Commons and The Chrysler Center and is a hub for students to locate and use various resources. Upon going to the site to look at the current wayfinding situation, I found various issues that need to be addressed. For such a large space, the signs are relatively small and offer no guidance to the viewer, with a lot of repetitiveness in some cases. The Duderstadt offers so much for students, yet I found it incredibly difficult to navigate to these places.

I designed a universal language by examining the color schemes throughout the building and creating an effective wayfinding system that is easy to follow.
